Topic:Any topic in environmental law.
Eligibility:Contest open to all JD candidate students enrolled ina New York State law school. Essays may have beensubmitted for course credit or for law reviews, but notas part of paid em ploy ment.
Length:Maximum length, 35 double-spaced pages (in clud ingfoot notes, which may be single-spaced).
Format:Each entrant MUST submit an electronic AND a hardcopy in either Microsoft Word or Wordperfect 5.0.
Judging:Criteria for judging entries will be:organization, practicality, originality, quality ofresearch, clarity of style. En tries will be judged byenvironmental law professors fromthrough out the State and otherdis tin guished members of theEnvironmental Law Section.
Awards:The first place winner will receive a$1,000 prize and the second andthird place winners will receivecertificates. In addition, the 1stplace essay will be published by theNew York State Bar Association, andthe 2nd and 3rd place essays will becon sid ered for publication. All threewinners will receive an invitation tothe Fall 2010 con fer ence of theEnvironmental Law Section.

Thisletter should also certify that the essay was notwrit ten as part of paid work. No more than oneentry per stu dent per year is allowed.
