Summer 2011 Legal Internship Opportunity with EPA Region 1 (Boston). DEADLINE for 2Ls: OCT 31st

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's office in Boston (Region 1) is accepting applications for their Summer 2011 legal internship program.

1Ls and 2Ls are encouraged to apply, but hurry! Deadlines are quickly approaching.

In 2010, 10 interns were hired for the Summer, out of over 1,000 applicants; 6 were paid and 4 were unpaid. Interns work on a range of issues involving federal environmental law and public policy.

The Summer program includes information sessions with EPA experts on homeland security, criminal enforcement, emergency response, and environmental justice; field trips to sites of environmental concern in the Region; office-wide legal retreat; and brown bag lunches with senior regional managers.

The 60+ attorneys of EPA New England are assigned to the Office of Environmental Stewardship, which manages enforcement of federal environmental statutes; or the Office of Regional Counsel, which handles all other legal work. They provide legal advice on implementation and enforcement of federal environmental protection statutes and regulations, review regulations of regional states and Indian tribes, advise the Agency on administration of EPA grants, and defend the Agency in lawsuits. Region 1, headquartered in Boston, serves Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS: Strong academic credentials and interest in public sector and/or environmental law.

APPLICATION PROCESS: Submit resume to internships.legal@epa.gov. DO NOT MAIL RESUMES TO REGION 1!

DEADLINES: The deadline for Summer 2011 placement is between Aug. 15 and Oct. 31, 2010 for 2Ls and between Jan. 1 and Feb. 28, 2011 for 1Ls (but sooner for best consideration because some offers may be made as early as November).

NEED MORE INFO? Contact Barbara Barreet at Region 1's Office of Environmental Stewardship (617-918-1700).
